Sunlight drifting across the waves
The canoe rests it stern on the sands of the beach
"What am I doing here?"
The voice was his own
Yet he was not speaking
"How did I get here?"
The mountain's surrounded him
They seemed familiar
Yet they still seemed mysterious
The lake
The boat
The sunset
Everything was on the tip of his tongue
'"What is this place?"
Again
The voice that was his own
But came not from him
"This is home."
Another voice this time
Soft and gentle
"This is your place."
"But I don't know what it is..."
His own voice responded
Looking to his feet
Seeing the open toed sandals
Feeling the breeze in his copper hair.
"It feels like I should remember."
"You are not you anymore."
The voice told him
"You have forgotten your true self."
Filled with sorrow
The voice echoed in his mind.
"But, I feel true."
Running his hands along the front of his shirt
Feeling his chest
Feeling his soul
"How can I be false?"
"They have come to change you."
Now spite filled the voice
Anger at the "they" spoken of
"You must not leave your home."
Scanning
His eyes took in the scene again
The canoe
The water
The trees
The mountains
Something was wrong now
It was all to perfect
The sun was still setting
The water's rhythm had not changed
The canoe still sat as it was
The water not moving it
"This is not my home."
He felt his lips move
He felt his mind joining him.
"What are you?"
"No,"
The voice was calm and kind
Yet desperation was a steep bass
Throwing off the harmony
"You do belong here."
There was a void in the place
The void he now felt
A schism
Something belonged but was not
What ever was meant to fill it was necessary
It was an essential
Without it, the world paled
"No I don't."
His vocal cords moved
Murmurs left his lips
"This isn't real."
"Yes it is."
The kindness was gone
Now anger remained.
"This is your place and you shall stay."
"No."
His voice was his
He spoke true and strong.
"I want to go home."
He turned from the perfect scene and walked away
The world began to faded into darkness
"Come back."
The voice was truly desperate.
"Stay with me."
"I can give you happiness."
"Come back to me."
"Come back to me Gavin." Tear stained eyes stared into his. A smile spread across her face as she saw him awaken. "GAVIN!" She squeezed his hand. "You came back."
"Jade?" Gavin's voice was shaky, he looked around the room. His dark blue eyes taking it all in. A hospital room, long term stay. "What happened?"
Wrapping an arm around him carefully, she pulled him into an embrace. Her raven hair smelled as it always did, the smell he loved. "There was an accident, you got hurt and fell into a coma." She pulled back, her gray eyes filled with tears of joy, "They said you were growing weaker, that you were moving away. I got so worried."
Smiling his pulled her head towards his, till there foreheads touched, his eyes met hers, "I couldn't leave." He kissed her lightly, "Not without you."
